Here are some indispensable resources for preparing to take the Certified Cicerone exam:
First up are some free downloads. After downloading the pdfs, I uploaded them to Staples for printing and binding. Maybe you have a local, independent print shop that could do the same thing for you.
Draft Quality Manual
Brewer's Association
(free download)
Don't forget to read Appendix D, which covers cask ale.
BJCP Style Guide
Beer Judge Certification Program
(free download)
Also available in Web, iPhone, Android versions.
I had this printed single sided so that I would have lots of room to write notes.
The BJCP Style Guide is a set of guidelines for beer competition judges. The Style Guide does not tell you everything that you need to know about beer styles. I found Joshua Bernstein's The Complete Beer Course to be a good for additional information.
On the web, I found All About Beer to be a good source of beer style information. I particularly enjoyed the articles by K. Florian Klemp.
Winning Homebrew is also a good online source of supplemental beer style information. This site is a work in progress.
Total Guide to Beer
Total Wine & More
(free download)
Also available free in web version or free hard copy in stores.
Surprisingly detailed. I liked the beer style comparison graphics.
